London Underground's Northern Line Extension won 'Tunnelling Project of the Year for 2018' as voted by New Civil Engineer at the gala awards dinner held on 6th December, 2018.
Congratulations are due to all. OTB Director and Chief Engineer, Phil Astle, was there to help collect the award (spot him in the photo).
The new 2.3km long extension will bring the Northern Line into the new development at Battersea Power Station and Nine Elms. OTB was a tunnel designer for the project. In particular, it was responsible for the innovative step-plate junctions, cross-passages, the upgrade at Kennington Station, as well as sprayed concrete lined shaft and tunnels (SCL) and critical tunnel temporary works, including those to support earth pressure balance TBM tunnelling.
