OTB would like to congratulate Eoin Murphy on being selected as a finalist for the Harding Prize by the British Tunnelling Society (BTS). Eoin’s submission was a paper titled 'Construction of Farnworth Tunnels'. The award-winning Farnworth project involved enlarging an existing railway tunnel by building a new tunnel over and through the existing tunnel. The significant challenge was to complete these works whilst maintaining an operational rail service.
The Harding Prize, named in honour of founding Chairman of the BTS Sir Harold Harding, is awarded to young engineers aged 33 or under who submit an original paper on any aspect of the tunnelling industry; the winning paper is selected by the BTS Committee. The prize presentation ceremony will take place on Thursday 21st April at the Institution of Civil Engineers.
